They say that fashions come back around and unfortunately kids of today are discovering items of clothing and accessories from the 1980s, some which quite frankly should remain within the dustbins of time. But don’t dismiss 1980s fashions completely. Some items, like hoop earrings, could really brighten up a plain outfit. Follow this advice and become a fashion leader, not a fashion victim.

Leggings

First out of the dustbin of time are leggings. Young teenage girls can just about get away with wearing black leggings under a skirt but for anybody else just don’t go near them. Certainly, avoid them if they are in day-glo colours.

Shoulder Pads

Catwalk models have been spotted sporting shoulder pads for next season’s jackets. Admittedly, these new style pads are smaller than their 1980′s counterparts but it has paved the way for a shoulder pad resurgence. We can feel assured that at the moment that the pads worn by Joan Collins in her Dynasty hey days have yet to be pulled out of the bottom of the time dustbin.

Tops

A simple blue shirt paired with white jeans is very tasteful and elegant this season. You can’t go far wrong with a loose fitting sky blue top matched a white skirt or trousers. Also, look out for MTV inspired clothing as worn by Madonna and Wham in the 1980s. We’re talking about slash tops and lots of zips.

Fluorescent shoes laces

Thankfully, white sports socks are not back but flourescent laceups for teenagers, oddly matched with 1970s compact boots, are in vogue.

Floursent wrist and head bands

Staying with floursent accessories, floursent wrist and head bands have become popular again. Why we were all wearing these in the 1970s the first time around is a mystery. Did we all have problems with over production of sweat back then? Is that sweat problem back with today’s teenagers? Are scientists now worried that excessive sweat can cause a problem with the O-zone?

Jewellery

Gold long gold jewellery is back too. Watch out for layed long pendent necklaces and those bold colourful hoop earrings. When buying jewellery, look for a twist on an older style jewellery such as coin-shaped pearl-earrings and coloured stones. These earrings can be worn with any outfit, such as a cocktail dress or jeans and a tee-shirt. Pearls remain a timeless piece of jewellery but this season they are complimented by coloured stones and pretty bows.

Relunctantly, much of the 1980s is back – casually pulled out of that dustbin of time by the younger generation. But by investing in items such as hoop earrings and a simple blue shirt, you can keep up with this season’s fashion. Unlike, the 1980s the first time around at least some of this fashion resurgence can be placed back into recycle bins, with the lid kept firmly closed.
