It is purely a societal convention that girls have earrings and boys don’t. A societal convention that is changing rapidly. Once upon a time, it was a social convention for a man to wear a hat. Now this is much rarer. Likewise, in certain cultures throughout history, it was expected that a grown man would have a beard. Not having a beard would be considered a sign of youth, inexperience, or worse, homosexual tendencies.
In modern America, it is acceptable for men to be clean shaven. In some places, it is even expected. No one today accuses beardless men of being gay. No one accuses women of being lesbians if they prefer clean shaven men either.
I personally have no idea why anyone would find a hunk of metal pierced through the flesh of another human being attractive, regardless of their sex, but it certainly doesn’t indicate homosexuality in any way.
