Can Gifts Given Before A Marriage Be Taken Back After Divorce?
Posted by Blogmaster in Earings, tags: After, back, Before, Divorce, Gifts, Given, Marriage, TakenHi I want to know if in NJ if a girl received gifts from the guy’s family members (mom and sisters) and the guy, prior to getting married. And now after almost 1 year they are getting divorce, so can the guy or his family claim the gifts? the gifts are all jewelry pieces (necklaces, ring, earings, bracelet) so can the guy claim is back in the divorce case? The girl also gave gifts but does not want anything back as it was a gift.
Please let me know if this is possible.

When you get married all your individual property becomes joint property between the two spouses. When you get divorced, generally all property is split between the two divorcees. Chances are (depending on what each person makes in income) he will get half of the jewelry and she will get to keep half of it.
